From driver to Nobel laureate

Entering the American Red Cross Ambulance, Hemingway hurried to Italy as an ambulance driver for the Field Service. Upon receiving the news that Italian soldiers were injured on the battlefield, Hemingway immediately drove to the front line. When he arrived, the war was very fierce. After getting out of the car, he was hit by a shell, leaving many shrapnel on his legs. The machine gun in the strafing shot hit him, and the bullets fell on his body, making him bloody.

Hemingway was only 19 years old at the time, and even though he was hit hard, he did not fall down easily.

What is especially admirable is that Hemingway actually endured the pain, tried his best to drag the wounded Italian soldier Lin Ximo into the car, and tried his best to drive back to the American Red Cross Hospital in Milan, Italy.

When he returned to the hospital and stopped the car, Hemingway was in so much pain that he could not stand up, and the doctor quickly carried him down for rescue.

After careful examination, doctors found that Hemingway’s left knee was shattered, and a total of 237 pieces of artillery shrapnel and machine gun warheads were in his body.

During the operation for Hemingway, the doctor replaced his left knee with a platinum kneecap. Some of the shrapnel and bullets on his body could be removed, and some could not be removed. Doctors performed 13 operations on Hemingway, and some shrapnel on his body still could not be removed.

Through the timely rescue by doctors, Lin Ximo quickly got out of danger and his body gradually recovered.

When Hemingway was found in the hospital, Lin Ximo immediately knelt down in front of him and thanked his savior: “Without your rescue, I would not be able to live, my second life was given to me by you, you are me True benefactor, I will never forget you, I hope you can recover as soon as possible.”

Hemingway actively cooperated with the doctor’s treatment, and his body slowly got better. After lying in the hospital for more than 3 months, he was finally able to walk slowly.

In the case of his own injury, Hemingway risked danger to save Lin Ximo. His righteousness and courage touched many people in the world. The Italian government awarded him the Crusader Medal of Merit and the Silver Medal of Bravery.

“Do you regret what you did when you were injured on the battlefield to save Italian soldiers?” Hemingway said nonchalantly when he heard the reporter’s question: “As long as you don’t care about the gains and losses, what else in life can’t be overcome? Life always leaves us bruised and bruised, and those wounds will eventually grow into our strongest parts.”

After the injury was basically healed, Hemingway returned to the field service team and worked with all his strength.

When an ammunition depot exploded in Milan, Italy, many people were affected and fell into the fields. Hemingway and his colleagues were ordered to collect the remains and carry them to a makeshift mortuary. When Hemingway found out that the girl Leonas was still alive, Hemingway rushed her to the hospital for rescue.

Leonas is only 20 years old, a student at the University of Rome, and her dream is to be a writer. Leonas was seriously injured, and he said to Hemingway when his life and death were at stake: “If my rescue fails, my dream of becoming a writer can only be placed on you, and I hope you will realize my wish.”

Hemingway comforted with mixed emotions: “I hope you can receive treatment at ease, and I hope you can recover.”

“If I can’t continue to live, I will ask you for my last wish.” Seeing Leonas’ impatient expression, Hemingway could only promise with a heavy heart: “If you have three strengths and two weaknesses, I will not let you down.”

Hearing Hemingway’s promise, Leonas relieved his anxiety and closed his eyes forever.

Ammunition is cruel and ruthless. Seeing the tragic experience of Leonas with his own eyes, Hemingway’s heart was greatly shocked, and he began to seriously think about life in a collection of mixed feelings: “Man’s misfortune and fortune are like the wind and clouds of the sky, which may change at any time. No matter what you do, you must act in time to try not to leave regrets.”

After promising to Leonas, Hemingway strictly demanded himself to write diligently every day. With his persistent creation, Hemingway wrote many well-known works. After the novella “The Old Man and the Sea” came out, it became a well-known work and won the Pulitzer Prize, the highest prize in the press, and the Nobel Prize, the highest prize in literature. Literary Award.

In an interview with reporters at the end of the Nobel Prize in Literature, Hemingway mentioned his commitment to Leonas, and couldn’t help but sigh with emotion: “Death is a very simple thing, and a person who may be vigorous in the morning will suddenly die at noon. Passing away. Only those who give themselves a sense of urgency and dare to race against time can make more and better achievements in their limited life. While helping others realize their wishes, they will also make themselves achieve good achievements.”
